Meet The Guides

Evan Cohan is our primary Tour Guide of Belgium and also our site photographer. Here is a guy who enjoys taking beercycling to the “next level”! In 2010 he completed a 2-month, 3,200 km (2,000 mi) bicycle tour down the East Coast USA and ended up visiting about 70 breweries along the way. Evan has lead other bicycle tours in Belgium, New Zealand, California, and Oregon, but if you ask him, he’s just getting warmed up. He has a massive passion for the outdoors, exercise, and of course, finding great beers in the process. He has been featured in such publications as Draft Magazine, Celebrator Beer News, Beer Connoisseur Magazine, and Craftbeer.com. A bicycle tour with the always friendly Evan is guaranteed to be full of fun moments and good memories.

Joel C Bennett, our assistant guide and BLOG contributor, is a home brewer and beer aficionado who joined the beercycling.com team in 2009 as someone who had never seriously biked before. Preferring the aesthetic of vintage bikes to todays fancy contraptions he logged hundreds of miles for beercycling.com on what was affectionately referred to as “The Jazz”, a free splatter-painted mountain bike from his jr. high days. Now ‘upgraded’ to a vintage touring bike, Joel has pedaled the paths of Belgium and drank the beer of monks to help prepare an exciting tour for you! Joel brings a warm smile with him tends to go out of his way to make sure everyone is comfortable and having a good time!
Favorite Beers: Deschutes “Hop in the Dark” (Oregon), Russian River “Consecration” (California), and Bear Republic “Hop Rod Rye” (California)
Henk Wesselink is our Dutch guide for the Holland and Belgium trips. Henk has completed over 25 biketours all around Europe, from Sicily to Norway, and from Scotland to Hungary. His ultimate cycling challenge was riding the famous French “Mont Ventoux” three times in one day for which he rewarded with an official membership to the Club des Cinglés du Mt Ventoux (dubbed, “Fools of the Ventoux”). He started enjoying craft beers as a student, once owned his own beer import trading company, and is now the founder and owner of Bierevents.nl, organizing tastings, beer-cooking workshops, and brewery tours. In 2011 he started the ONLY Dutch hop farm, growing four different types of US hops. Henk is a true beer ambassador, who loves to share his years of experience and his passion for both beer and cycling with you!
